2002 AAUP Presidential Address
Traditionally one of the first (as well as the last) official duties of the AAUP president is an address to the membership at the annual meeting. Peter Milroy, director of the University of British Columbia Press and 2002-2003 AAUP president, referred at the beginning of his speech to the previous president's (William Sisler, Harvard University Press) wry comment that no one remembers what the speech was about, only how long it took. This is probably somewhat less than true, as the association is lucky to have, in the field of scholarly publishing, a far beyond average number of passionate, intelligent, and articulate candidates for the presidency. In particular, however, no one who listened to Peter Milroy's address on Saturday, June 29, 2002, will soon forget his words. Please read on

What Can We Learn from Advertising Research
(and Why Don't Book Ads Look Like Other Ads?)
Ray Potter, Advertising Manager at Princeton University Press, gave a provocative presentation on this topic at the St. Petersburg Annual Meeting. While a recording of the session is available, a print transcript is also available to AAUP members on request. Email bmclaughlin@aaupnet.org to find out how to procure the transcript, or order a tape or CD of the session using the PDF form available above.
